Our Love of Animals

Over the years, my wife and I have adopted and cared for animals both within our circle of family and friends who have pets in Canada and during our travels abroad—everywhere from Morocco to Thailand.

We have enjoyed the company of rescued pets, visited elephant and bird sanctuaries, and even volunteered at an animal hospital, rescue center, and sanctuary in Udaipur, India last summer called Animal Aid Unlimited.

At the beginning of 2019, we had a five-month stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia where my wife volunteered with a yoga teacher training program and retreat center called Tavoos Garden Restaurant and Wellness Center and its sister organization Green Leaf Boutique Hotel. And there we adopted two curious and somewhat affectionate cats—one of them named Ginger—pictured napping above.

So, with our affinity for animals, it was fitting that I ‘ve had the opportunity to work with an online publisher called Red Cat Media. Their aim is to “provide balanced, objective, and well researched answers to the questions that people ask about their pets online,” and they “are passionate about improving standards in pet welfare and helping people to enjoy the animals whose lives they share.”

Since the summer, I’ve been working as an editorial and archive assistant, helping them publish articles on their various websites. Here is a brief overview of my responsibilities.

Editorial Responsibilities

Editing and rewriting articles for various websites:

• Adhering to an in-house style guide
• Checking and updating academic references
• Communicating and trouble-shooting issues with the editorial staff
• Copy editing and content editing (line editing)
• Conducting research for evidence-based articles
• Ensuring search engine optimization (SEO)
• Publishing in WordPress
• Writing content
